#atozchallenge, D is for Diamond…

3e4ff196c0c15b04294da0b04ac29bd6

According to the American Gemlogical Society, “The diamond is the traditional birthstone of April and holds significant meaning for those born in that month, thought to provide the wearer with better relationships and an increase in inner strength.

Wearing diamonds is purported to bring other benefits such as balance, clarity and abundance. It’s also symbolic of eternal love…”

All that is lovely and good to know, but when you’re a little girl and your friends all have pretty colored stones for their birth months, an April birthday means your stone is colorless and clear and you kind of wish it wasn’t…

But then a girl grows up and begins to understand the value of a diamond and it looks better and better  😉

    1. It’s really how I felt. I’d still rather have a pretty colored stone but you know diamonds are a girl’s best friend, Bushka! Thanks so much for reading!

  3. The little girl thing is so true! I never liked mine — June so it was a weird pale purplish thing (I don’t even remember the name)… or pearl. Pearl? No fun! 😀

    1. My sister is June, too. I know, pearls are not my favorite, either…

  7. Mine is pink tourmaline! Eww! Even as a kid I never liked bright colors, funny, right? The other stone however, is opal which I love! You lucked out getting diamond for a birthstone! I hope you get one for real! Muah!

    1. I’ll just buy the earrings myself, lol! Opals are so pretty, fragile, though. Love the iridescence.

      1. Yeah, you have to be careful with them. But so pretty!

  8. I love this. My birthstone is also opal and I have had a few of them – a fire opal, a blue opal, several regular ones. They are fragile, but I think that gives it more appeal! However, I will never give up my diamonds!

  11. Yeah…I used to want something with more color to my birthstone as well when I was a little girl. Something green, or red, or purple? When you get older, you can have all the colors of the rainbow sitting in your jewelry case, but by then you can appreciate the value of a diamond. Even still, diamonds aren’t my favorite gemstones, even if they are my birthstone. 😉
    Great post!

  12. I love that meme so much I’m gonna tweet it. If I can tweet it. I’ll see if I can tweet it. I’ve been having serious twitter issues today. Twissues? Still that alone is reason enough to see the beauty in a diamond.
