#atozchallenge, Z is for Zoo…

“El, it’s Jason.  Call me, please.  Something came up.”  Ellie thought of the good-looking firefighter she’d met at Gran’s.  He was surprisingly charming and fun and they were going to dinner.

When Ellie called back, Jason explained he was babysitting his 4-year-old nephew, Zak, for the weekend as Zak’s mom had premature labor pains.

“Sorry, El, I hate to cancel, but they’re dropping him off soon.  Want to visit the zoo with us tomorrow?”  He sounded hopeful.

Zak was all innocence, holding Ellie’s hand as they walked.  “Are you gonna marry Uncle Jason and have a baby like my mom?”

My theme this year was 100 word fiction.  So, no, don’t count this line.  This is a continuation of Ellie and Jason’s story from E is for Easter which you can find here.  And thanks for reading all my little stories this year!

Yay, Yay, it’s Saturday…

I mean it, I really, really do!

#atozchallenge, Y is for Yankee…

Yvonne was certain that Billy’s family would never love her.  She hadn’t come from old money or belonged to a country club and she didn’t like cornbread or sugar in her iced tea.

She was a perfectly nice girl from the Midwest with a good education, a great job and a love for Billy that would never quit.   But she longed to be part of his family, not just that nice Yankee girl their son married…

Billy pulled her close for a kiss.  “I’m sure they’ll come ’round.  But it’s okay either way, darling, cause we’re our own family now.”

#atozchallenge, X is for Xarelto…

Xavier was infernally weary of his mother.  She held the family purse strings closely.  He was still driving his 2015 Audi R8 Spyder and she thought it was fine.  She wanted him to take fewer vacations.  A 39-year-old should stop mountain climbing and start giving her grandchildren.

He needed the old bat off the Board of Directors so he could take control.  He’d tried to get her to step down, but she refused.  It was pure luck that she began taking a new medication, Xarelto.*  He would try surreptitiously doubling her dose and perhaps she would fall and bleed out.  Accidentally.

TMI Thursday, Birthday Edition…

If you were here for the A to Z Challenge last year, you might remember it’s birthday week at my house!  Oldest son (JP’s daddy) had his birthday yesterday, today is mine and youngest son’s is Saturday.  Poor hubby had his in January and we remind him this week is so not about him!

We are going to Top Golf on Saturday with some of the family.  I’ve never been before but have heard good things.  It’s basically an indoor golf place/sports bar kind of atmosphere for people of all ages and they have food and drink, lots of televisions, games and golf in a bay that’s enclosed on three sides and you hit the ball to the outside.  Can you tell I only have sons?

It’s been an interesting and busy last year for us, more surgeries than I would have liked — I guess one is more than I would have liked 🙂 — but things are looking up for sure.  I’m not crazy about the short, white hair after chemo but I’m trying not to whine about it.  Well, not all the time anyway! And I’m grateful for moisturizers and cosmetics that really work miracles!

Oh, and I’m also grateful for my family and friends in real life and this crazy blogging world and surviving cancer and just getting on with life and doing what we love ❤
