JP is our youngest grandson who turned five in September. He and his mom and dad lived with us while they were building their house a year ago. Though they’ve moved into their new house now, we still get to pick him up from preschool on Tuesdays and Thursdays and spend the afternoon with him. Next year he’ll be in kindergarten all day. He’s so full of fun and remarkably wise for his years!
For Blogging A to Z, I’ll be sharing some of our many conversations over the last few years. I hope you enjoy!
JP: Nana, please, please, please can I wash dishes in the sink?
Me: Okay, sure, how about some of the silverware? I’ll put the dishes in the dishwasher.
JP: I need lots of water and soap to make bubbles.
Me: Of course. Thank you. You’re such a good helper.
JP: You know I like to help you, Nana, right? I always will cause I love you.
Me: Oh, I love you, too, sweetie!
JP: Then you can just watch TV, cause you’re getting kind of old.
Well, at least he included the word “kinda” to soften the blow. LOL

And he’s so matter of fact about it. Not much filter at this age! Thank goodness my old skin is thick, lol!

And he doesn’t mean to hurt my feelings or anything. Just no filter yet!

Hahaha! Don’t you love it when they point that out? Mine tell me, “Dad, when you’re old, I’ll let you live with me.” It’s sweet….but they’re biting off way more than they realize. 😃

Just wait. They’ll change their minds about that down the road! No, just kidding. When oldest built his new BIG house he said they fully expected one or the other set of grandparents might need to live with them. I’d rather be on my own, but the thought is so sweet!

Hahaha. I tell them they’ll have their own life and such, and that I appreciate the offer, but I hope I never have to take them up on the offer. 😃

Best to keep a good relationship as they’ll be able to choose your nursing home down the road 😉

And he’s not old enough to be snarky about it yet. He’s just stating facts!

Yes, but it’s a good “kinda old”.

True. And it’s not like he’s lying. Especially to him, papa and I are very old. I’m sure he had no idea people lived this long!

Well grandmama, you better sit down and rest. I think that’s so insightful coming from a 5 year old 😉 You really want to encourage that when they are young men. He’ll be a real catch some day. Blessings Mz. D ❤ Don't you just love, love, love this 2nd winter, ;(

Thanks, Patti! Yes, the weather sucks. My daffodils came up, bloomed and promptly fell over from the frost!

Aww that’s too bad. I think they should be okay once it gets warm, if that ever is going to happen 🙂

Well, they’ll come back next year for sure, but I’m worried they froze. Hopefully the trees and bushes are all okay.

I think it’s great that kids have no filter. You get honesty!

That’s it, he’s just learning a little to be sarcastic. But with me and papa, it’s all about honesty. And it’s not like it isn’t true!

This is great! Now, if he can keep that attitude, he’ll be serving you tea on the veranda by the time he’s eight 😀

Wouldn’t that be nice? I’ve found that by the time they’re old enough to really help, they don’t want to anymore!
