The firefighters stood, covered in grime and sweat, watching as the abandoned building burned to the ground. It would be tomorrow before they could sift through the now smoldering debris for anything worth saving.
One fireman turned, saw something moving and watched in amazement as a cat crept through charred rubble, then sat, delicately licking its paws.
“Here, kitty, kitty,” he called softly, feeling foolish. The cat crept closer until Brett scooped it up in his hands, stroking the soft gray fur.
“What the hell is this?” Brett muttered, feeling a small key dangling from the cat’s collar.

The mind tumbles with possibilities of what that key could fit. Great job on creating a spark for our imaginations!

Delighted the fireman didn’t find a match and lighter fluid in the cat’s paw. Good write Diane. This can definitely be continued. Curious to see if you can tell a story in 100 word segments. Wouldn’t that be so cool. I am tempted to try it myself.

I don’t think a cat would get caught that easily, lol. They can be sneaky! Thanks, gosh it would be hard to write in small segments. I really had to edit carefully to get down to 100

Oh, thanks. We have this little space in the back of our apartment and it should be packed tonight. Music, drinking, dancing. I am so looking forward to this. Thank you. You are always welcome to come.

LOL Getting read to start the set up. Cold soda and beers in the frigid. Liquor all ready.
I wished you lived close enough to drop by.

Thanks, mostly just wanted to see if I could do the 100 word story. It will probably end up being more about hot firemen than the stupid cat 😉

The cat coming out of the ashes is almost like part of its 9 lives! So mysterious, what does the key lead to,?

I wasn’t really thinking of the 9 lives idea, but I love that! Thank you, Robin ❤

I hope you may wrote a second story about the key or another life in the cat’s story. This was the perfect amount of information and left us intrigued! Are you taking writing classes? I have thought when work slows down in the winter months, maybe trying a poetry or short story course. . . Happy weekend to you, Diane!!

I’m not taking classes but have in the past. Just following some of the prompts here to see if I can do them! Hope you have a great weekend, too!
