The Chicago Auto Show…

2020 Corvette
Chicago Bears Ford truck — Trubisky or Foles?? That is the question!

We went to the Chicago Auto Show on a Sunday in February BC (before Coronavirus) and it was a crazy, crowded, busy day where we got in about 6,000 steps! I know because my phone was tracking.

I was actually looking to replace my 11 year old SUV and even though I still love my SRX, it was really bigger than I need anymore. So I wanted to look at what was out there without going to a bunch of dealerships.

There were tons of fun vehicles to look at and a bunch of fun people, too. They had the new totally cool Corvette and a bunch of sport themed vehicles. Lots of food and snacks. Seems like it was years ago rather than a month! But found all these photos on my phone and thought I’d share.

Chicago White Sox — remember baseball?
Chicago Cubs — remember when they won the World Series 😉
My favorite shirt! He said I could take his picture…

And what I ended up buying after all that fun looking around? A cute little bronze colored Buick Encore GX. We’ve decided she’s one of the Spice Girls. Maybe Cinnamon?

As my brother pointed out, the car is nice but the sales guy looks a little shady!

You Can’t Make This Stuff Up…

I’m linking up with my friend, Laura of Fountain Pen Follies today as she and I share some Chicago area news stories that make us both SO proud (eyes rolling).  Laura and I first met in Blogging 101 and discovered we’re from the same area, although she’s north of Chicago and I’m southwest of the city.  We’ve become good friends and even met for our first lunch a few weeks ago, something we’re already planning to repeat.

I’m sharing a story from the western suburbs of a 29 year-old woman who allegedly left a suburban bar and was driving home when she drove her car onto the railroad tracks, not across them, but along them, later telling police “she thought it was a street.”  We do have problems with potholes in the Chicago area, but that must have been some poorly maintained street she thought she was driving on!

This happened at 1:30 a.m. Friday morning.  A police officer in the area arrived on the scene after other drivers started honking to attract the officer’s attention.  The police department then contacted the railroad to shut down all train traffic on the line while the officer attempted to stop the woman’s vehicle, which eventually became lodged between the railroad ties and tracks.  The officer could “smell a strong odor of alcohol” and asked the woman to complete field sobriety tests, which she failed.  Gee, hard to believe, right?

I certainly don’t mean to make light of drinking and driving, but the stupidity of some people is amazing.  I mean, have we all not heard of calling a taxi, or Uber or a friend?   And is it really a good idea for a young woman to be leaving a bar by herself at 1:30 in the morning anyway?  Just sayin’…  Luckily in this case, no one was injured.

Quotes are from the story by Alexandra Kukulka that appeared in Saturday’s Chicago Sun-Times.

Check out Laura’s post of what crazy things happened in the northern suburbs this past week!
