Wednesday Update…

86a80fc5-22a4-4505-824f-3bf6806b3440 I’ve always lived in the western suburbs of Chicago and we Midwesterners are a pretty tough bunch.  This subzero stuff happens to us pretty often and we’re generally equipped to deal.  But today is a new level of crazy cold.

When I woke up this morning it was -27 actual temperature!  Last night I left faucets trickling and cabinet and vanity doors open to allow warm room air to get to the pipes.

I felt like I was taking my life into my hands just going to the end of the driveway to retrieve the papers this morning.  Apparently frostbite can occur in two to five minutes when wind chills are -55. Doctors on the morning news shows were telling us not to take deep breaths outside as it can cause lung damage!

As you can tell because I’m blogging I made it back inside safely.  And I won’t even have to go out again for the mail because they’ve suspended our postal service today.

Come on Spring!

    1. I could definitely be somewhere warm for January and February. If you get a nice place I’ll come visit next winter 😉 and you can come up here during hurricane season lol!

      1. LOL
Sounds like a great exchange. Diane, I was out late yesterday afternoon waiting for an Uber, the winchill was 9 below.
        I was cursing the wind.

I will be out of here very soon if God is willing.

  3. I’ve been saying that very thing since like November! How many days until April again?

Seriously though, stay safe. We aren’t as cold as y’all, but we’re gonna have -30 wind chills today and tomorrow. This is nuts, man. Then Sunday, it’s gonna be 60. Too weird.

      2. I can actually feel that it’s not as cold today. Still too dangerous for being out any length of time, so no school or mail delivery.

    1. Omg, I know! It’s bad enough listening to the news. If my power goes out we’re packing up and leaving (as soon as I figure out how to manually open the garage door haha!)

  9. I’ve never lived anywhere that would require that postal service be stopped for weather. I’ve been following the weather there with no jealousy involved. That is SO COLD! Bundle up and stay inside!

    1. I really can’t recall they’ve ever done it before and we’ve had brutal cold other years. Out where I am the usps drives but their trucks are open doored. In the city and some suburbs they have to walk down the street and Up to houses. It just can’t be safe to do that with this wind chill. Service is suspended again today but I can do without the bills for another day lol!

  10. Bbrrrr! Stay inside and keep warm. I’ve never had to face that kind of weather myself, which is why I’m an avid armchair traveler to Antarctica!

  11. Glad you made it back safely! No fun to damage your lungs over a paper. Unless it has ads for a really great shoe sale.

    1. And you won’t know that unless you risk your life to check it out, lol! No mail delivery but they can get the papers out

    1. We’re good, just staying inside. No mail delivery again today, just too dangerous for city area where postal workers walk up to houses. But tomorrow will be in the 20s and then warmer and rain. Glad I didn’t have problems with the furnace or pipes, etc . That’s out of my comfort zone!

      1. Whew! Yes indeed! The 20’s will feel downright warm after this. I’m glad you’re safe and sound. ❤
