My friend Dr. Meg at Meg Sorick, Writer, tagged me for ‘a song a day’ challenge. Meg writes and draws and bakes. And she’s a chiropractor — can you say overachiever?? But seriously, you need to check out her blog if you don’t follow already. It’s wonderful.
The rules are to post the lyrics of a favorite song five days in a row, explain what they mean to you (if you like) and add the video if available. Even my kids tell me I have the musical taste of a preteen girl, so sorry about that 😀 You are then supposed to nominate two other bloggers who can participate if they wish and my choices are:
Patty from Elan Creations
Laura from Fountain Pen Follies
My first song choice is Bend Me, Shape Me by The American Breed. Not really the lyrics, which are what most girls want to hear (and were recently a Sleep Number mattress commercial) but also because the cute guitar player on the left in the video is my gorgeous cousin Al Ciner. His dad and my mom were cousins.
I really was a preteen girl when his band hit it big and later he went on to play guitar for groups like Three Dog Night and Chaka Khan’s band Rufus. He’s promised to do a more in depth interview with me later about his music career, so stay tuned! Haha, see what I did there with tune? I’m hoping I remember how to add a video to my blog…
You are all the woman
I need, and baby you know it
You can make this beggar a king
A clown or a poet
I’ll give you all that I own
You’ve got me standing in line
Out in the cold, pay me some mind
Bend me, shape me
Anyway you want me
Long as you love me, it’s all right
Bend me, shape me
Anyway you want me
You got the power to turn on the light
Everybody tells me
I’m wrong to want you so badly
But there’s a force driving me on
I follow it gladly
So let them laugh I don’t care
‘Cause I got nothing to hide
All that I want is you by my side
Bend me, shape me
Anyway you want me
Long as you love me, it’s all right
Bend me, shape me
Anyway you want me
You got the power to turn on the light…
I totally recognize it from the commercial! That’s cool — you have a famous relative! 🙂 I went to high school with a guy who’s famous in a genre of music I don’t listen to. And he sucks at keeping in touch… as do I!
I can’t wait to see what else you choose. I’m kinda looking forward to the preteen stuff. 🙂 I’ll run it past my daughter for approval… LOL!

Do you see the video when you pull up my post? I don’t see it and I thought I did it right 😦 And yes, my cuz is great, although I don’t really know him well. He was famous while I was still a kid…

I only see the link. If you go to “Add Media” there should be an option on the left to “Insert from youtube”… if you do that and search/select your video and hit insert, you should be all good!

thanks, I’ll try that!

Ah! You’re almost famous! I love it and that is a great song! Thanks for playing along, Dee! ❤

Haha, he was famous while I was still a kid so when I met him I was tongue-tied and didn’t even get a picture!

Aw! Too bad, what a cool story, though!

Oh dear. You know most of my favorite songs are not suitable for work. Or, heck, adulthood.
I love the story about your song, though! However, may I just tease you a little by pointing out that the video was put up by “Smurfstools Oldies Treasure Chest”? 🙂

I noticed that, too! Haha!

Yes, I did see that. But it was the best quality I could find. I need to talk to Al, we’ve been trying to do an “interview” for months now, but put it on hold when I got sick… He’s probably got his own stuff!

You need to copy the link not add the actual thing. As soon as the link is pressed when published it will show. X I loose more than i publish some weeks. 😇

I haven’t done one in so long, I forgot how. I think I’ve got it up there now. The computer is always my downfall! 🙂

No it isn’t the computer lets you blog and gives you the opportunity to connect and never be alone. It sometimes takes a while to get used to bits of the awkward stuff… but you are doing it so bravo!

I used to ask my son, but he was all, jeez, mom, I have a job, like that was more important than my blog, haha!

I was reading the lyrics and was struck by the similarity to some lyrics in a Garbage song (“Paranoid”) – I looked it up quickly to see if I was making things up in my head, and I definitely wasn’t. Looks like there was some lawyering up involving those lyrics!
