My coffee companion on the patio one early morning in Maui, a very brave (read pushy) red-crested cardinal. As you can see, I feared for my Starbucks!
This species of bird is actually a songbird (Paroaria coronata), part of the family of tanagers and is native to parts of South America and now found in Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Despite the name, it’s not really related to true cardinals found in North America. But he’s very cute, isn’t he?
My DDIL took the photo and my info is from Wikipedia.
Beautiful bird!

Thanks. He was a little too friendly as I’m sure they are all used to finding tidbits around the resort!

Isn’t he pretty? Supposedly they are song birds, but this one was more interested in me and my coffee. Of course, I’m sure people at the resort feed them so they get very brave. My DDIL thought to grab her phone and take a pix, I was more concerned about protecting my Starbucks!

Yeah, I figured they had to be a type of cardinal, but only in name. 🙂

I’d be sassy too if I wore a crown like that! 😏

What a cutie! We saw a lot of these guys near my parents’ lanai in Hawaii. Well, these and chickens. All the chickens.

Were you on Kauai? Cause the chickens and roosters are everywhere there! I even got a rooster Christmas ornament from our trip there.. 🙂

We were! It was kind of amazing to see all the chickens. I thought there were a lot on Key West. I was wrong.

Thanks, Jessica! Let me know what your blood work shows, okay? Maybe you’ll get some answers!

Oh crap. I thought I was answering a comment on 100 year old recipes… Oops. Right after I hit send, I saw your name!! Feel free to delete. 😊😊
Yes, maybe some answers will come. Bet you’re in surgery right now. Prayers for surgeons and you, my dear friend! ❤️❤️

I’m feeling pretty good tonight. He did the minimum surgery to hopefully avoid complications so recovery should be pretty good. Just no lifting with my right arm for the moment…

Yep, it was early this am and outpatient, got home in the afternoon. They seem to admit you pretty rarely nowadays …
