Smothering…

woman-1179563_1920

In this lifetime she’d been blessed
To be loved by more than one
Yet it was you with whom she chose to be
When all was said and done

What’s happened to the life you shared
She had no interest in another
Now you’ve gone and thrown her love away
Like an old and worn out sweater

Perhaps she needed too much from you
So certain that you loved her, too
Only wanted to wrap you in her love
Now she wishes it had smothered you!

  2. Well that was a twist at the end! I loved this, Diane. Melancholy and wistful, but also so strong-voiced. That last line packs a punch. Great poem!💜

  7. Totally agreed with that first verse ….
we chose to be with them.. because we found in them something we think 💭 is worth keeping..
And it’s really a privilege to be chosen by us..
and to find that that our choice was so wrong because he doesn’t appreciate our love ❤️.. is very disappointing..
not a waste.. because we loved every moment spent with you..
Just thought it would have last a lifetime..
    his lost…
although our hearts are broken 💔

  9. A very well-written poem evoking so many emotions: hope, love, disappointment, and resentment. As others have already mentioned, the last line packs a punch! 🙂

  10. This sort of fits my mood lately, Dee. I suppose I need to give up hope for Calisto. He has such nice qualities but age and his insecurities/anxieties tend to put a damper on his joy!
Hope you are doing okay, the short term chemo sounds like it may just be the perfect dosage for you. You are often in my thoughts. My eye still seems a bit tired so I am blogging in bursts. Hugs xo
