great job! I had a dream a bit ago where I drove off a bridge with my sister in the car with me but I was strangely calm about the whole thing, lol. Not sure what that was about! 😛

Cause it’s scary as hell!! lol. I have lots of dreams where the road is absolutely horrendous- craters and sink holes, impossibly steep and winding, etc. I hate those dreams…

I drove in a snowstorm once on my way to Las Vegas and I was in Colorado and has crossed a bridge near a reservoir that was frozen over. There were no other cars on this stretch of road. I was driving 10 mph because it was so icy…
…and in my mind, I kept seeing my car spin off that road into the frozen waters below. Terrifying for sure.

That is my biggest phobia, and I’m not sure why. That would scare me to death driving a bridge like that!

Reminds me of real life event from years ago when the Sunshine Skyway bridge from Tampa to Bradenton was hit by an oil tanker and collapsed. Scary thought, indeed.

Pretty harrowing story. It was during the morning rush. Foggy too, as a thunderstorm had just passed through before dawn. The eerie part was after the fact. They were two separate spans, the southbound span being the one that fell. They diverted traffic both directions to the northbound span while the new bridge was being built. The part of the southbound span still standing was parallel until you got to the top. Then it was just gone. Made it all too real to see it in that state.

I don’t mind them generally, but crossing a big span, especially in poor weather, does make me a bit on edge.

Diane, I’ve had this fear ever since news anchor Jessica Savitch died that way, driving off a bridge into a river and drowning. What a chilling poem. Great job with this one. Brrr…….

Ahhh! Bridges are scary, and so is the thought of falling to water below. I once ran the bridge from Michigan to Canada. There were big gaps on either side between the asphalt and the steel. It sure looked big enough to fall through! I ran down the middle! I couldn’t even look over the edge.

It was either that or don’t finish! We had to run the tunnel that runs under the water on the way back, and it had dripping walls….lol.

Oh, even worse, I hate the tunnels. Have been through ones by Norfolk a lot and they can give me white knuckles if traffic is slow!

What a big poem. I can see why this nightmare might come to you right now: you are in a scary place. I was thrilled when I learned about lucid dreaming. At times, I’ve done it: intervened in my own dream and saved the situation, e.g. stop the car, bring the rescue team on to the scene, or simply (?) fly myself to safety. But I’ve found this works just as well: to shut my eyes and pretend I am lucid dreaming, to consciously relive the dream with a triumphant ending. Sorry, you know all this! I’m always trying to teach my grasndmother to suck eggs, so to speak.

Chilling, I dream of falling, that dream where you jump awake before you impact. I can sympathise with the spiked adrenaline you feel when if your nightmare includes plummeting off a bridge!

Oh. My. Gosh! I have such an awful fear of bridges and unfortunately reside in Pittsburgh also known as “the city of bridges.” It’s sort of comforting to know there are other out here who feel the same way but I honestly wouldn’t wish this anxiety on my worst enemy.

I am better than I was, but I still dislike the longer bridges. I doubt I could drive somewhere like the Florida Keys.

Oh yeah Florida is definitely out of the question for me. How about the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel have you done that? This is on my list of no-goes. My brother tricked me into going on The Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Maryland to Ocean City and I swear I almost died. Never again.

Never. My sis lives in Virginia Beach and I’m not crazy about the shorter tunnel/bridges, but I couldn’t do that long one.

I won’t go to Virginia Beach for that reason alone. I was told there is no way around it but I think the real reason is an alternative route would be hours out of the way but honestly to avoid that 22 mile long bridge/tunnel I’d enjoy a longer drive. It does amaze me though that there are such long bridges in existence. There’s a real high bridge in WV called the New River Gorge Bridge that I’d love to see but there’s no way on earth I could go it. Its

I was told there wasn’t a way to avoid it but I think it’s more a matter of the distance it would take to go around it. It really is an amazing bridge but there’s no way I’d survive a ride on it. I found a couple of YouTube videos of people driving on/through it and I nearly broke out in hives. There’s a very high bridge in WV called the New River Gorge Bridge that I’d love to see but know I couldn’t go on that one either. Once a year people come from all over to base jump off it.
