Trust, a limerick…

Sending your child away to college is tough
Having to trust that you’ve taught them enough
They’re excited to be on their own
You can’t believe that they’re grown
Take heart, they’ll always need you — to buy stuff!

  1. I think that is harder than the first time you watch them drive out of site in a vehicle.

    1. Oh,gosh, so many firsts that are tough as a parent! I think it’s the whole we can’t control the situation anymore thing!

      1. I know. Darn it, I like being in control.

      2. That was the hardest part for me, knowing I couldn’t do anything to protect them anymore.

    1. Hardest thing I’ve done, I think. Try not to think about all the stuff you did 😉

      1. Oh shit! I hadn’t even thought of it from that perspective. Now I’m just freaking out! 😳

      2. I just hope they listen to one piece of advice: no glove, no love. I want grandkids, but not from some random girl at a toga party. 😃

      3. Ah, speaking from experience here?? It is just as worrisome for the parents of boys, especially nowadays! But, come on, you’ve been teaching them good stuff all their lives, it sticks with them…

      4. First question?: maybe (- unexpected pregnancy).
Second part?: I sure hope your right!
That said, boys tend to be led around by their dicks, so there’s no guarantee the second head won’t overrule the first. 😃

  4. That’s funny and pretty true too. It’s a pity limericks only have five lines. With a sixth, you could also mention getting their dirty laundry cleaned. 🙂

    1. True that! If you have boys like I do, it was always about not having enough money to eat (or drink)

  5. As parents, it’s hard to watch them go, but we just have to trust they’ll be able to stand on their own two feet, whether at college or anywhere else. It’s a real tear-jerker at times. You’re right, the time goes so quickly and suddenly they’re adult. As for that last line … never a truer one was written!

    1. Then they start jobs and don’t have enough, they have loans to pay off and kids to buy for, what would they do without us??

      2. Oh, yeah, visiting colleges, the tests, applications, but it’s so worth it in the end! I mean, even junior college. I went a year and lived at home then went away and it was all good…

      3. We’ve begun the testing but that’s all for the moment. I know it will be worth it, even though it’s hard! I found the money and went as fast as I could! Lol

  10. Isn’t it funny how time seems to crawl by for them, but whizzes past us? What’s better is in a very few years, they get it! ❤ Cleverly crafted, Dee ❤

  11. This was both heartwarming and hilarious, as my mind wandered around all the “white lies” I told my parents as I got older. I tried to pick my battles with my kids and they have turned out okay.
Are you doing well, keeping your sanity and cheerful nature? Hugs! xo

  14. Ahh… this is great. And I do not look forward to my kids going away to college! I’m nervous about them going back to school (tomorrow… well, today since it’s after 1 am…)… 🙂 I guess it’s bad that my mom still buys me stuff sometimes… 😛

    1. Nope, my mom did and I still buy my adult kids stuff sometimes, especially if they need more at times. It’s just what parents do! Your son will do fine at middle school, you’ll see
