Monday Musings and Dog Days of Summer…

wildlife-photography-1551711_1920

Can you believe it’s August already? Some random thoughts…

In the U. S., these are the dog days of summer, the hottest, most humid time of the year…

School will be back in session soon, within two or three weeks in some suburbs here.  Where has the summer gone?

I’m feeling scattered lately with my life and my writing.  I’ll pull it together soon…maybe…

I need to buy a new swimsuit for a winter vacation and stores are already filled with back-to-school fashions and winter coats — and probably Halloween candy…

Why such a rush for summer to end?  Things are just heating up…

      4. I know. Ours wasn’t bad last year, but we got slammed the previous two years. I’m hoping for mild again. 😃

      5. Me, too! We have a trip planned end of January and if a snowstorm messes up our flights I will not be a happy camper!

  3. It happens all the time. Easier to find a winter coat than a swimsuit in August. ugh.

  5. They are sending kids back to school earlier and earlier. Of course the school year ends earlier too but still doesn’t seem right to send them back so early in the year. Mine is going back in two weeks.

    1. Isn’t that crazy? And I guess I could see high school kids getting out earlier to find summer jobs, but the little kids being done before Memorial Day? I just don’t understand it…

      1. Me neither! Oh well! My son home schools which is done on a Sept-June schedule and it’s a lot less painful going back to school too! Will probably get my daughter started when she’s a little older as well.

  7. I feel so scattered, too. I feel like letting it all hang out. Why do we always feel guilty of cutting ourselves some slack? We deserve a break!

  9. Hey my Costco will be rolling out the Christmas stuff soon. Come on! I think the heat is making us all crazy! 😦 So no apologies needed for scattered-ness!

    1. Nuts, right? Hobby Lobby and Michaels have decorations out already!

  10. I think our Costco already has Christmas stuff out…sigh. We had a cooling rain the other morning and the temp dropped to 68…OMG! All I could think of was AUTUMNNNNNN. Please be here! But of course, right now, Aug 1, the sun is blazing away and it’s going to pile up into the 90s, and the humidity? I broke out in a sweat just walking to the mailbox.

But that’s all right. I’m still wondering what the hell happened to July…so while I do feel somewhat scattered as well, I’m trying to get my notes together, my head together, my feelings in the right place and be ready for writing in front of a warm fireplace and coffee.

    1. Hahaha, it’s hot again here, too! Maybe it’s the heat, thinking I’m on vacation all the time. And getting older seems to make the time go by faster. Finally understand what my parents were talking about!
Yes, I like winter right up till New Years, then it can be spring again, 🙂

This summer has flown by! And they always expect us to be thinking a season or more ahead for shopping. I always miss the beach toys because when I actually want to go to the beach, they’ve been sold out for a month.

    1. Yep, and I know it’s going to be like that and I still put it off! But I cannot be ready to shop for Christmas yet, I just cannot! 🙂

  13. Great photo Diane! One of the perks of again is by the dog days of summer I’m very ready for fall. Consumer commercialization is a two-edged sword. I never cared much about style trends. As the upcoming season displays appear I headed to the clearance racks – after Filene’s Basement (did I hear they folded?) Roo’s fashion tip of the week: Swim after dark – after a glass of wine or a cocktail everything’s lovely and last year’s fashions become retro! 😉

    1. Hahaha, I just need another suit and it might even be on clearance now! I kind of hate being prodded into a new season before I’m ready…

      1. Clearly my comment was an epic GS3 fail! Don’t ask me how I did it, but I think you got the drift. Feel free to delete. In fact, please delete! 😀 😀

      2. Nope, I get what u meant! I need another suit cause this one might not make it to January and then I won’t find one at all!

      3. I know what you mean about being prodded – loathe it. Did I read correctly that Filene’s Basement in the City closed? ‘Hope not. I found the best bargains on good luggage there.

      4. Yeah, it looks like they did. Maybe all the outlet malls took over?

  14. I like the idea of buying a swimsuit now for my winter vacation – I may have to go out looking (and attempting not to get too depressed when all I can find are winter things).

    1. I have a feeling what’s left will be on clearance, which may work out if we find a good deal!

      1. Very true (at least until I use the clearance as a reason to buy two swimsuits and ruin the whole money saving thing).

Take each day and really squeeze out as much as I can. Take care of yourself, enjoy August and I hope you find that drop-dead gorgeous swimsuit! 🙂

  17. August is a depressing month for me for a number of family-related reasons.

And there are not enough words to describe how much I HATE stores moving to the next thing so fast! The minute the kids were out of school, the back to school stuff was out. WTF? Everything is so rushed that by the time the event or holiday arrives, I’m already totally sick of it and I want to skip it! Oh, I hate it so much! (I’m pretty sure I wrote a post about this last year before Christmas! Ugh!)

    🙂

    1. I’m with you. The thought of trying on a winter coat when it’s 90 out, just yuk! I’m sorry this is a difficult month for you – sending hugs xo

      1. It’s okay. But I’m pretty sure a depressing post is coming (or two)…

I was just ‘reviewing’ my wardrobe and I couldn’t even bring myself to try on a sweater in an air-conditioned environment. Maybe in a few weeks… LOL

  19. Makes me so mad! The heat index here is still in the triple digits. Just the other day, I went to exchange a gifted Bath & Body works candle, and I was drenched in sweat from the walk from the humid parking garage, so I wanted something that smelled light and summery. To my disdain, almost everything was pumpkin or cider-scented. Give us back our seasons!

      1. Oh, I’ve been back. I only get June off. Even so, I try not to complain as it’s better than any other job I’ve had. Would you believe school starts next week? August 9th – it’s nuts!

      2. That is truly awful!! I forgot you work 11 months, sorry. I thought it was bad the kids here go back about the 23rd of August!

  22. Yeesh!! I don’t even like to think of it at all. In 3 weeks it’s back to school everyday rush for me. The holiday is almost over. I am wailing silently :/
