Me and JP, Conversations with a 3 1/2 year old…

J20151005_103457P is my now 3 1/2 year old grandson. He and his mom and dad and their English bulldog lived with us while their new house was being built.  One of the best things about having them here was spending time talking with him.  It makes me hopeful for the next generation.  He is so wise and so much fun!  Even though they have their own house, I still get to babysit him on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  You can find all my Me and JP stories here.

JP:  Let’s play soccer, please, Nana, please??  Nana, Nana, don’t you want to play?  What are we going to do?  I want to do something!

Me:  Okay, okay, but let’s settle down before you get hurt, please!

JP:  ZUKA ZAMA!

Me:  Is that on Lion Guard?  Who says that on Lion Guard?

JP:  Bunga.  (He’s a honey badger and Zuka Zama means “pop up, dive in.”  Yes, I looked it up at the Disney site.)  I love Lion Guard.  Look, Nana, I have my Lion Guard shirt on today.

Me:  I know, I love it.  Okay, well, what if we’re quiet for just a little while?

JP:  I can’t, Nana, I’m a wild boy!  (Running around and trying to kick the soccer ball).

Me:  (Rolling the soccer ball past him).   Oh, look, I got a goal!  I’m winning!

JP:  Nana, no!  It wasn’t your turn!

Me:  (Teasing)  Oh, boo hoo, don’t whine.  I got a goal, I’m winning!

JP:  (Pouting)  Nana, let’s be quiet for awhile…

Happy Father’s Day to dads and grandpas everywhere!

Grandkids are truly a special blessing. Anyone actually having their childhood is grand, but “flesh of my flesh” kinda things are always … there’s no words – but I think you understand.

    1. I love that he’s starting to get jokes now. I call one dog Inga Bear cause she’s fluffy like a teddy, and Justin said, oh, like Inga Bare Necessities from the Jungle Book? 🙂

  3. Hahaha… That is adorable! I miss when my kids were younger. Sometimes! They’re still pretty young though. I’m okay with my son getting older (kind of) but with my daughter, it’s scary! She kind of already acts like a moody teenager now and she’s 8. I am so screwed. (And I cannot IMAGINE where she gets that moodiness from. Must be John. LOL)

    1. Yes, I know what you mean! My friends with girls all talk about their moodiness!

  18. […] I go to lunch with my friends and I am on a weekly ladies bowling league in the fall and winter. I don’t really like shopping, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like buying! I’m just not much on spending the whole day at the mall. I mow the lawn and garden a little, pick up dog poop in our backyard and shovel snow when needed. Pretty mundane. Oh, and Tuesdays and Thursdays I babysit my three and a half-year-old grandson. […]

  22. I cannot believe I didn’t comment but will now, Diane. I love J.P. and how he says he’s a boy and he has to be busy (or wild) and he thinks it’s not fair when you et a goal. Soccer is a great, fun and popular sport the kids start young at around 4 or so. My grandson Landen would run, then sit down, sometimes run the wrong direction. He took his leg pass off during one half of a game while ON the Field!! Lol I liked how he decided you could be quiet!

    1. Haha! That age is so fun. My brother was telling me he has a friend who coaches 3 and 4 year olds in learning soccer and some of them don’t even stay on the field! JP still doesn’t have a really long attention span and boy, he doesn’t like to lose!

Okay – I’ve no idea what that means so let me try again.
    Your grandkid is cute.
    The conversation is cuter.
The way he went quiet at the end is the cutest. 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      7. Oh – sorry about that. I’ll see if I can tag things up a little better in future. The key is thus – anything marked (s) will be serious and anything marked (s) will be silly. There – that should clear up any confusion (s). 🙂
        I do not have a TV (s).
