Superstition…

Very superstitious, writing on the wall

Nothing supernatural about the scrawl

Nope, it’s not Stevie Wonder

But it was a big blunder

To let the kids have crayons in the hall!

In response to Mind and Life Matters Limerick Poetry Challenge, Superstition.   (Hopefully you’re all not too young to know that first line is from the song Superstition written and sung by the wonderful Stevie Wonder!)

  1. Oh, that was so cute Diane and I must admit Stevie Wonder’s tune came into my head when I started reading. 🙂 Oh, the messy days of crayons, just a distant memory now! 🙂

      1. In fact, recently I purchased some crayons that were made for coloring on glass windows, like the sliding doors onto the porch. My grandson had a ball creating on them and, after all was appropriately acclaimed as “Grand” we could wipe it off without difficulty. Incredible what changes have taken place over the last 30 years or so!

      2. Very cool, I will look for those for when my grands are over! Thanks 🙂

  4. Ha! Been there done that. We finally painted walls with chalkboard paint. Boom! Problem solved. Well, at least that problem. 😃

    1. Good idea! Black walls are kind of a pain to paint over later, lots of primer, just so you know 🙂

      1. That doesn’t scare me. When we bought our place, every room had 80 year-old wallpaper. Stripping that shit was the worst job EVER! 😃

      2. Oh, that would be awful. Not too fond of wallpaper myself. Youngest had a sports theme room and in Chicago that’s red and black walls yay 😉

      3. If I have anything to say about it, I will NEVER strip wallpaper again. That shit took forever! 😝

      4. Hahaha! I hope so. I certainly try to be one. But you know how it is. Boys will be boys, no matter how hard we try not to be idiots. 😃

      6. When it comes right down to it, none of us could possibly deny this. I mean, whenever one hears, “Hey, watch this”, there’s no question it’s a man, and impending danger and likely injury are at hand. What can we say? 😁

      7. OMG, 3 yr old grandson today crawling on the edge of the brick fire pit (no fire) at his parents, yelling “Watch this Daddy,” while I have visions of trip to the ER after he falls either into the pit or onto the brick patio!

      2. True… but I just meant that I’ve had that song stuck in my head for years, but for some reason it didn’t occur to me with this prompt until I read yours. And now it is stuck fast again… Writing’s on the wall…

      3. And I couldn’t think of anything but that song, other than a black cat I used to have! I don’t really believe in superstition or luck, I guess, so nothing else really spoke to me…

      4. I don’t believe in it either, but I remembered back to sportier days and some of my team mates and their odd little rituals… always wearing their lucky socks, putting their socks and boots on in a specific order, leaving the changing room either first or last, touching the posts when we ran onto the pitch… there seemed to be no end to it for some!

  13. Diane, you have a gift with rhymes! I loved this!
My daughter drew on walls, chairs, books, etc., when she was two and we knew it was her because she signed everything. The only letters she could write were O and T, so she’s sign her art OTO.
It was her nickname for several years. 🙂

  15. This made me smile… I occasionally still have crayon to clean, but usually it’s on a table, not a wall… and it’s more often markers or pencil… and Magic Eraser exists now, so it’s all good… takes mere seconds to clean… 😀
