#atozchallenge, U is for Uniparous…

elephant-1049846_1920.png

Uniparous is an adjective referring to an animal that only gives birth to one baby at a time, like an elephant.  (And if the elephant were born between April 20 and May 20, it would be a Taurus, or — wait for it — a bull elephant 😀 !)

Human beings are usually uniparous, though they occasionally have multiple births like twins, triplets and maybe even more.  You’ll most likely find a description of an animal as uniparous in zoology class, although it’s sometimes used to describe a woman who has only had one child in her lifetime.

Or U can be for Unicorn, the mythical horse-like creature with a spiraling pointed horn on their forehead, which doesn’t really scream birthday, but I have this really cute graphic that does!

  12. This is my second animal-related U word I’ve learned today! And now I’ve forgotten the other one. Darn it.

Found it. Thanks google! Ululate. It’s an animal vocalization like a howl. Doesn’t help if you remember the definition and not the word.

Hey, that one would be great in Scrabble.

      1. We have dogs too. 🙂 But we also have a unicorn, it hangs on the wall. It’s a special tapestry with a special story. I will write about it one day. 🙂

      3. It’s called “Unicorn in captivity.” and it’s a replica of a rather famous tapestry. I bought it at an estate sale, because I thought it needed a place where it could be free if it wants to be. Oh Gosh, I will never grow up 🙂

  17. This was very educational, Diane! I loved the fact I had never heard of the first one and that the second one was my oldest daughter’s favorite kind of pretend play and she had “my little pony unicorns!” So sweet, hope you had a great weekend, I had so much going on. . .
