Personal Training, Part 3

FB_IMG_1452698895222After hurting my right knee and completing physical therapy, the therapist recommended I work with a personal trainer. So now I’m going three times a week to work out with Keith, whom I call the Evil Personal Trainer. We’re still in the hate part of our love/hate relationship.

I’ve worked out on and off over the years, going at various times to yoga, a health club, Woman’s Workout World, Jazzercise, etc.  Yes, a joiner, I admit it.  But I’ve never worked out with more than five pound weights and that was awhile ago.

So today EPT Keith had me stepping up onto a box with one foot, then bringing the other foot up onto the box while lifting a ten pound weight in my hand up over my head.  The only reason I held on was I didn’t want to drop it on my head.  I whined that my elbow was going to dislocate.   Keith said, “Come on, Diane, you can do it. You’ve carried shopping bags heavier than that!”   Yes, perhaps, but not up over my head ….My arms still feel like noodles.

Then we did this exercise where you have a Velcro strap around each ankle and a length of rubber tubing in between.  You take side steps using the resistance, 30 times total.  Today he added stretching a resistance band more than shoulder width with my hands in front of me, elbows tucked in, keeping it stretched the whole time I’m doing the 30 steps.

“Your hands are up too high,” Keith said, moving in to adjust them. “That’s because I was going for your neck,” I snarl.   “Okay, stepping back now,” he smiles.   It’s cute how he thinks I’m kidding…

  1. Keith is earning his EPT acronym. He may yet earn a ten pound weight on his noggin’ if he keeps messin’ with you. I like the photo. It reminded me of the saying about maybe I’m not that fast but if a lion is chasing a group I’m in…I only have to be faster than one other group member…

    1. I am sore today — did the treadmill for 1/2 hour at home after working out for an hour at the gym. I want to be strong enough to take him, lol!

      1. The treadmill is a good idea – it’ll help loosen you up after the strength training!

      3. Yep! That’s the plan. It’s fun but slightly nerve wracking! Not being able to plan ahead for my next move!

      5. Not quite! He e mails the post to me Wednesday for approval. He didn’t want me to be uncomfortable with anything he wrote. Just in case he gets too gruesome!

  10. I’ve never been one to wear a shirt with writing on it, but I might make an exception for this one!
I feel for you on your P/T trials. Not fun!

  11. I definitely liked the t shirt but would like it to not be a tank top. I have grandma saggy arms. Okay, lifting 10 pounds over the head seems like extreme measures for muscles! I would be afraid of dropping it too! I lift weights at work, hampers full of auto parts onto conveyor belts. Nothing higher than my waist. That stretchy thing could be nice lying in bed and doing sideways scissor kicks. . .
I have no sympathy for Keith and good job, giving him heck! 😀

  12. I just discovered your Personal Training tab-so cool! I’ve always wanted to do this but couldn’t get beyond that check they want up front 😀 But you’re making me think it’s a pretty great thing–excited you got a good trainer-you seem like a good fit. 🙂

    1. You know, it’s exactly like that! The money was huge but decided I needed to do this for me. I whine a lot and threaten him, but all in fun! And my leg is better — I started after finishing therapy for my knee. I hope you do it, the personal attention is worth the money, I think…
