I’m glad it was me you noticed in that smoky bar so many years ago, coming over and talking to me, even if I was surrounded by my girlfriends. You were so brave to face the giggles…
And sweet for buying me a drink and a pack of cigarettes, calling me the next day even though I gave you my card and made you call me at work, cause I think I’d read an article in Cosmo that said it was safer that way…
You didn’t worry about the age difference, you always walked on the street side and opened doors and fixed my car and paid when we went on dates and kept me firmly in your arms so everyone knew I was yours…
Then you met my family and introduced me to yours and you asked me to marry you anyway. You loved me so well and didn’t flinch (well, maybe a little) at the accidental elbow in the eye or fit of giggles or even a crying jag when it was that time of the month…
You threw out our cigarettes and walked with me and never once said I looked fat when I had to wear your shirts to cover my belly. You gave me back rubs and foot rubs and hugs and kisses and whispered words of love. Believe me when I say everyone smiled because they were envious, not amused…
You were right next to me through the births and the losses, the joy and sadness, holding me or crying with me and promising me anything to get me through the heartbreak…
Sometimes it feels like it was just yesterday that we met and we have our whole lives in front of us…

You took me right back to the beginning our my own fine romance. Thanks. I had to laugh when I read the part about meeting the families and getting married anyway. I had a very similar experience.

Meg, I really appreciate that coming from you 🙂 I might try to write some dialogue sometime, but it’s been a long time since I wrote fiction…like school years!

Such a great photo, from the 60’s or 70’s. The beginning love story was heartwarming and honest in its portrayal. I like the idea of adding dialogue but you are off to a wonderful story here already! Smiles, Robin
