Monday Musings…

Wow, the holidays seemed to come and go faster than ever at our house.  We usually leave our tree and lights up through January 6, Three Kings Day or the Epiphany.  My parents were both of Eastern European descent and that’s how I grew up, though more like an end to the holiday season rather than a real religious connotation.  So I’ll be taking down decorations later in the week and getting things back to normal.

And I did order a new calendar and planner cause I’ve been agreeing to do reviews and promos for newly released books and then totally forgetting what days I agreed to post 😉   And I do kind of like to spread them out and write other things in between.

But because I’m flying by the seat of my pants for now, I have three reviews right in a row cause they all release on the same day, January 5.  Yesterday was the first review, Rebel Cowboy.  I’ll have another today and one more tomorrow, then some other posts later in the week.

And, of course, Howie, my Evil Physical Therapist, decided I needed more therapy so he arranged for three more weeks, then we reevaluate.  He’s got me doing a bike, a treadmill, the resistance bands, weights, that awful slant board thing you do squats on and now this exercise where you scoot across a carpeted floor on a stool, digging in with your heels and pulling yourself forward using just your hamstring muscles in your legs — last week he had me do 12 times across the room…

See, now doesn’t your week sound like more fun than mine??

  1. I am sure that by the time Howie is done with you, you will be as fit as a fiddle 😉 I have been thinking of doing book reviews, but I am going to leave that for later when I start my own author blog, hopefully this year.

  2. All of your hard work will pay off even if it is a painful process. I recently took an adult gymnastics class and thought to myself ‘geez, why do I have to jump around like a frog?’ so I completely understand 😊

  4. I am sorry, but I can totally picture you scooting across the floor on a stool. Well I am off for my first workout of the year, (also in weeks) I am sure this is the last moments I will be moving free of pain, sigh! Being out of shape bites! Getting back in shape is worse. lol

    1. I know, and every time I start up again I vow I won’t slack off and then I do — it’s a vicious circle!

  5. As silly as some of those exercises may seem, they will get you back in shape! The trick is keeping up with it after Howie lets you go. Cheering you on!

I find it interesting when people choose to take down their decorations. For some it seems like they literally can’t wait to remove them (January 1 they’re out there!) while others take their sweet time in doing so over the next week. We will bring in the wreaths, swags, ribbons and sled, etc. in the next few days but we always keep a string of white lights enveloped within our four large holly bushes throughout January at the least. They look beautiful against the chill and snow of the night air. I think we’ve influenced at least a couple other folks nearby to do a similar thing – just keep a “light on” and keep the Holiday feel a bit longer – without of course going over the top and looking like we haven’t moved on from Christmas proper. Call them our “Winter Decorations” if you will. Say hi to Howie for us!

    1. I swear, you are like a brother from another mother, lol! We have white lights in holly bushes by the front door and I’d be okay leaving them up through the winter. They light the entryway and I keep saying to hubby, why don’t people decorate for the winter, you know, all through February? That would be perfect for me. My sister is a tax accountant and she HAS to have her decorations down by January 1 cause she could not cope with the disorder any longer and won’t have time later. I like to put them up early and take them down late — the longer I have holidays, the better! But our neighborhood will probably go dark by today. I was surprised how many people had lights and trees up yesterday even. Sometimes we need it when it’s snowy and cold!

All I can say is we consider ourselves trend-setters in at least a couple of cases! Two neighbors now are doing “winter lights” similar to what we started. If you give it a go I suspect you’ll not only warm your own hearts but those who come across them..and create new traditions elsewhere also. It’s lovely to have some inspirational lights on those cold, snowy nights.

  8. Ouch, That Howie sounds like a real task master. I am sure that it will be worth it in the end but I know from experience that physical therapy is grueling. Give yourself some downtime too.

  10. Just want to report we got another “convert” this year to leave their white lighted snowman yard ornament on their porch…brightly illuminating the winter night. Slowly but surely, one person at a time…we’re gonna get people to convert a piece of Christmas decoration into Winter decoration. White winter lights rule!

    1. Yay! I noticed a lot more people had their lights on last night still when I was out. I’m all for it!
