An Icy Sigh…

2015-11-21 15.01.36Like a secret lover,

You creep in during the night…

When I wake in the morning,

You are there, tempting with your beauty…

Icy cold, you brush my face,

I push you away, you mean nothing today,

Touching my hair gently as you fall…

If you wouldn’t be with me at Christmas

Why did you come at all?

  2. I really liked this, even though it’s not something we experience in Phoenix at Christmas or any other time!

    1. Thanks! My mom and dad lived in Peoria for about 14 years after they retired. It’s more like a furnace there, as I recall, unless, of course, it’s monsoon season!

  3. The last two sentences could not be more “me.” If the snow and cold are not around at Christmas time just save it up for next year. It is useless to have tons of snow and ice arrive in January and February. Too late. Don’t need ’em. Don’t want ’em.

    1. Exactly! I want to think about my yard and garden…probably should have picked somewhere else to live, hmm?

  5. This was such a beautiful expression of how snow arrives, quietly and beautifully. I am like you, though, prefer it to decorate our holidays and leave us afterwards! I hate scraping off my windshield in the mornings!!
Have a wonderful new years eve and the very best in 2016! 🙂

  6. Having lived in colder climates as well as the blast furnace, Phoenix (happy memories those), I especially like how this poem led me. A wonderful visit! Happy New Year, all Y’alls!

    1. US, too, and now it’s in the 20s. I should have picked a warmer place to live!

  9. Lovely, descriptive poem! I agree that Christmas is the only time for snow – when we can appreciate it without thinking of that drive to work. I’m late responding to this post (it’s now February) and we still haven’t had more than a mereflutter of snow where I live in the UK. It’s time to look forward to spring now.
