Friday fuming…

Sometimes, not that often, I feel very much out of my depth in a situation.  I’m old enough to be pretty comfortable in my skin now, lucky enough to have had a great education, met some wonderful people, rolled with some of the stuff life has thrown at me — so why oh why can I not figure out how to do some things on this frigging blog of mine??

The linking, the pingbacks, the widgets, reformatting some pages for these blog book tours just will not cooperate.  Some of you have such wonderful sites and I haven’t a clue how you do it, especially you young ones!  Well, I assume you are young,  but I should remember what assuming does…

Okay, sigh, there, I’m done, but if you have any suggestions for me, well, suggest away!  I have to say, bloggers seem like such a nice group of people and, no, I’m not just saying that cause I need your help 🙂

  1. Did you take Blogging 101? I’m thinking you did because I swear I met you in 201. There are a whole bunch of nice tutorials under help in your dashboard. I think you can even chat with a happiness engineer. (I think.) I totally revamped my blog during blogging 101 and relied heavily on these step-by-step guides and I’m old!!!

    1. I did take 101 and may just repeat it. I seriously thought I’d just do my little posts and had no idea how much interaction there would be and how much I’d enjoy it — if I could do it! I’m no doctor, but I’m pretty sure you’re not old!!

      1. Oh, the interaction is half the fun! I think there’s another 101 class in November.

  2. Ha! Well, you know from my blog that I went totally simple, hence my theme, The Truly Minimal Theme! So afraid I don’t have much to offer, except to say I rather like the look of your blog. Does that help? 🙂

    1. No, but it made me feel a little better. Maybe I’ll eat some chocolate, too. I just want to play the word games and stuff, whine… probably have to repeat blogging 101. I really thought I’d just post my little reviews — didn’t know there’d be fun stuff to do!

  3. I’ve already signed up for Blogging 201. There’s supposed to be stuff on customizing your blog, HTML, etc. Looks interesting. I’m still learning all this stuff as well…and I’ve had/ignored my blog for years. Yikes!!! 😉 https://dailypost.wordpress.com/blogging-university/

    1. Blogging 201 looks like it has more information than 101. Oh! And I signed up for 4 weeks of Writing 101. I like being spoon-fed writing prompts. It makes blogging easier.

      1. I’m embarrassed to say I took 101 and 201 but just as I was starting and had no idea what I would want/need to do later. Guess I will repeat the courses!

      2. At least you’ll already know someone else in the class. We can share crayons. LOL

  4. Wait a minute! I’ve been following your lead! Are you telling me we’re in the same boat? I think I’ll sign up for another course (or take 101 over again)

  5. What kind of problems are you having? Do you use the text or visual editor? I use both. I usually start with the text editor, then switch to the visual editor when I need a line centered or if I want to insert pre-coded hyperlinks, so I don’t have to manually input them.

  6. See, right there, young one, I really don’t know how to do all that! I’m kind of seeing the message in the code but other than experimenting or making my son help me 😦 I don’t know any of that stuff or what a pre-coded hyperlink is!!! Like if I want to say click here for a giveaway, don’t know how to link that to the site…

    1. It looks like you got it right in this post. All the links work.

      1. They do, and made my son help me, now I’m trying to do it on my own and when I went to put in the rafflecopter link in the widget, it changed the color of everything following.. I’m sure I picked up too much of the computer language stuff, just have to experiment, I guess. How did you learn this stuff? Did you take classes or what? I even took Blogging 101 at my library but it was very simplified or maybe I was too new to this. I want to know everything all at once, darn it!!

      2. I didn’t take classes, but I had a friend in college who taught me how to create an HTML page from scratch. I didn’t know all the codes and formatting, but I could do basic stuff. There’s still a lot I don’t understand. That’s why I don’t host my own blog but signed up for a free one with WordPress. I definitely cannot create a theme from scratch. I don’t even want to think about how to do that.

  7. If you don’t want to pingback yourself, whenever you link to your own post, shorten the link to remove your blog address. That’s explained better here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/comments/pingbacks/

I should take Blogging 101. As it is now, I google with any questions, which means I google a lot. I am happy if I learn one new blogging how-to per week. I figure it’s learning by doing for now.

  8. Well, I can assure you, you are not alone. I’ve learned a couple of things about the way I learn, and at 73 you would think I know myself. Wrong. I’m in my second session of 101 and have taken 201, and still I haven’t a clue how to do ping backs, widgets, and multiple others things. I learned that reading directions doesn’t get it for me. I need visual instructions, and almost every word is like learning a new language. Hang in and keep asking questions. Someone will have answers.
